Meyer Werft-Home Sweet Home

So the ship is still under construction. So home sweet home is Meyer Werft. Here are some pics of the port and nearby town. All you see from the ship are these massive windmills and fields. We had a picnic in town one night under the windmill. Dutch cheese-yum. It's just a tad bit chilly here. The peak of summer and it's around 55 degrees. Glad I packed that one sweater. It's become my uniform. "Oh no, here comes that girl in the stinky blue sweater."

what train station?

So getting on the train in amsterdam is a little tricky. Being able to speak Dutch and not having jet lag probably would have helped. Took the train from the airport into amsterdam...well...way past amsterdam. Once I saw lambs and windmills I thought I might have missed my station. I did get there eventually. The Joordan area was quiet and lovely. Here are a few pictures.

3 days and counting

3 days and counting. 3 days to unpack and pack again and buy every known product that comes in a 3oz travel approved container. How much shampoo and toothpaste does one gal need for a month? Well there is a 50lb baggage weight limit, so if I only pack one outfit I should be able to fit it all. There is a certain type of insanity that occurs pre-trip. I feel the urge to reinvent myself. New, sophisticated, European, Tammy. This must be something from childhood. Too many Barbie dolls. Let's see...their was regular ol' plain Barbie in the small box with the plain clothes (me) and then there was Malibu Barbie (me trying too hard) but no European Barbie...so I'm at a loss here. I will have to depend on old films. Boatneck tee, ballet flats a la Audrey Hepburn? Very Roman Holiday. I will be on a ship most of the time...Stripes, lots of stripes! Ah the nautical theme. Gotta watch this one or I could end up working below deck. It's not Halloween, it's a trip for work. Excitement does strange things to a girl's mind.
So, I'm off to Amsterdam first. An overnight flight. (Do I have enough magazines? Damn that carry on limit!) I should be able to explore for a day and then off to the port in Eemshaven. I will be setting up an art studio and classes onboard a new ship. I will be meeting up with two friends/artists who will be working onboard for the next four months. I wonder if they will be dressed like French sailors too?
